With his hand on a Bible given to him by his grandmother, Bill Clinton takes the oath of office at his first inauguration, in 1993. The first U.S. President, George Washington, decided to place his hand on a Bible during his first presidential oath of office. Since then, every President has followed the tradition, except Theodore Roosevelt.
