U.S. Forest Service law enforcement officer Carmen Klinch spends most working hours alone while patrolling recreational and backcountry areas in Shasta-Trinity National Forest in northern California. Job rewards include breathtaking scenery and helping members of the public. But when serious trouble arises, backup from law enforcement colleagues can be hours away.
