Atlantic waves crash on the shore of the Dingle Peninsula, an Irish-speaking enclave in western-most Ireland. The area served as a location setting for the 1970 Robert Mitchum film Ryan's Daughter and, more recently, Far and Away starring Nicole Kidman and Tom Cruise—enterprises still remembered by local residents. Today, the peninsula's cinematic beauty draws English-speaking tourists and Irish nationals, threatening the region's Irish-speaking heritage.
