"Brown Bear Fishing Salmon, Brooks River, Katmai National Park"

Salmon are a critical part of the ecosystem in southwest Alaska. They are considered a "keystone" species; many other forms of life depend upon them for their survival. They provide food for animals like grizzly bears at the top of the food chain; when they die, their young feed on them.
