SPACE PHOTOS THIS WEEK: Blue Blob, San Juan Fire, More

October 21, 2009--Sand dunes rise around the rocky surface in the middle of a Martian impact crater in this newly released false-color picture from the Mars Reconnaissance Orbiter.

Earlier this month MRO managers released a new set of high-resolution pictures taken by the orbiter's HiRISE camera. The 233 new Mars pictures, all captured during August 2009, show the wide diversity of surface shapes and textures on the red planet.
