October 27, 2009--Dark smoke almost seems to vanish against the dark blue ocean around Puerto Rico, where a fuel-storage facility burst into flames on October 23. NASA's Moderate Resolution Imaging Spectroradiometer captured this image shortly after the event.

A fire that started across a small bay from San Juan caused an explosion at the facility that rocked the area with the same force as a magnitude 2.4 earthquake, according to CNN. Firefighters battling the blaze finally got things under control on the 25th.
