SPACE PHOTOS THIS WEEK: Hellish Cloud, Mars Devil, More

August 19, 2009--Dark patterns resembling doodles on an Etch A Sketch indicate where dust devils have been spinning across the Thyles Rupes region of Mars, as seen in a recently released image from the Mars Reconnaissance Orbiter.

Here, Martian dust devils have been acting more like Dustbusters, "vacuuming" up bright surface material as they move and revealing the darker rock underneath.
