Bayt Lahm (Bethlehem), West Bank, December 5, 2007—A Palestinian woman walks by a shop wall bearing the latest work of British graffiti artist Banksy.

The mural, depicting a dove in a flak jacket, is part of an art event titled "Santa's Ghetto," which contrasts Bethlehem's historic role as the birthplace of Jesus Christ with its modern lot as "one of the most contentious places on Earth," as the show's Web site puts it.

The exhibition features sculptures and paintings on display in a former chicken shop, but it also includes murals erected around the city. Among them is a scene of a little girl frisking a soldier and a depiction of two reindeer with their antlers locked in battle.
