5. Giant Crystal Cave Comes to Light

Crisscrossed with gems up to 36 feet (11 meters) long, Mexico's Cave of Crystals looks like nothing so much as Superman's Fortress of Solitude.

That otherworldly appeal—which helped make the cave gallery our fifth most viewed of 2007is a big reason we still get the occasional email accusing us of propagating a hoax.
