Svalbard Global Seed Vault é um detalhe muito importante e, para aqueles que não conhecem, eis um artigo da National Geographic.

What a great idea to conserve the seeds before they're lost in the wild and  a brilliant location. You have to wonder why you need heavily armed guards though especially with its location...... Who would want to destroy what's there anyway.   Hmmm, I have my own suspicions who would.  I can't think of another reason why you'd need Guards otherwise. Its not like some some kids will want to graffiti or trash the place, you can just drive there and vandalise it.

Every breeder has seed bank of some kind. Many individuals have extensive collections of seeds in their area of interest.  The berated commercial breeders have large seed banks as well. All of their proprietary seed passes into public domain as their patents run out. That adds to the genetic diversity.

I don't know about the rest of the world but in 1950 1/2 of the Hard Red Winter Wheat in the USA was all one variety Early Triumph developed by one farmer, Joseph Danne in Beckham County Oklahoma.

http://digital.library.okstate.edu/encyclopedia/entries/E/EA003.html

In the 1960's there was and explosion of new wheat varieties from the Land Grant collages and hybrid wheats became available. Emmer was once more grown in the US when the Army Corps of Engineers failed to list it on the crops than couldn't be grown on land purchased to build Lake Gaza Little Elm North of Dallas.

So at least in the USA I think one will be hard pressed to find a loss of genetic diversity in Hard Red Winter Wheat.

WOW, just registered and the commenter’s here are just as un-cool, twisted and paranoid as those on fox articles. Thats a "revelation" to me.

The big qustion is WHO is the real owner of this Vault, and WHO the stored item will be distributed to... We are talking about the Doomsday survivals primarily...

this article goes a long way into what is wrong with monsanto and gmo's. it also is a slam to commercial farming.

commercial farming and monsanto is what has happened to and the deaths of small farming operations and family farms.

These things are fulfilling Bible Revelation which was revealed more than 2000year before. After some disaster on Earth, all the plants/seeds will be burned and one team will have it(could be Antichrist) and who want to have food should wear 666 seal. So who reads this should Repent from Sin and accept Jesus as your Saviour and take baptism as per Mathew chapter 28:18-19(Bible) to save your life.

see the Bible Revelation 6:12-17 words

I watched as he opened the sixth seal. There was a great earthquake. The sun turned blacklike sackcloth made of goat hair, the whole moon turned blood red, 13 and the stars in the sky fell to earth, as late figs drop from a fig tree when shaken by a strong wind. 14 The sky receded like a scroll, rolling up, and every mountain and island was removed from its place. 15 Then the kings of the earth, the princes, the generals, the rich, the mighty, and every slave and every free man hid in caves and among the rocks of the mountains. 16 They called to the mountains and the rocks, "Fall on us and hide us from the face of him who sits on the throne and from the wrath of the Lamb! 17 For the great day of their wrath has come, and who can stand?"

Mathew chapter 28:18-19(Bible)

Then Jesus came to them and said, "All authority in heaven and on earth has been given to me. 19 Therefore go and make disciples of all nations, baptizing them in the name of the Father and of the Son and of the Holy Spirit

I think this is necessary, long-sighted work, especially with the slow grind of monocultures and global climate change bearing down on us.  But I wonder about a major catastrophe that's more sudden?  If very few humans are left how will they know the facility exists?  How to access it?

Frank Buldarky
Frank Buldarky

We will have to destroy that facility because it presents a threat to the future profitability of the food industry.  The earth's bounty is unfair to business because lazy people can simply eat food that sprouts from the earth without having to pay royalties or comply with licensing arrangements.  Hunger and access to food are fundamental motivators.  If people/villages/etc. can grow their own food, how can we push people into factories and call centers to work for subsistence?

These people are communists and terrorists just like people who wanted interracial marriage and desegregation and allowing women to vote - yes, all of those things were shouted down as communist plots - just like Vietnam was planning to invade the United States and take over and make us all speak Vietnamese, but actually instead it turns out that they just wanted to take over their own country from an occupying military force.

Anyway, the earth's bounty is an evil welfare state for lazy people who aren't "go getters" and "self starters" and "movers and shakers."  We need to find a political justification to send in air strikes and destroy that facility that presents a danger to everything we hold dear.

@Anthony W. I'm sure that several other "Seed Vault's" exists around the Globe.

Remember, you don't place all eggs in the same basket.

@Frank Buldarky Your comment is so prevailingly stupid, I don't even know if you're serious. You are putting profit above science that benefits the human race. We already made that mistake with Nikola Tesla, and have lost science and technology that will take us centuries to reclaim. Do everyone a favor and never comment on anything again.

@russell cornell @thomas George well that is your opinion, but what if it really is the truth and you do not believe and continue on your way and it happens, Opps out of time.... lol so research and wait or pray and take the opportunity to prepare, its up to the individual.

Steve Wiedemann

@M A @Frank BuldarkyRead it again with the <sarcasm> flag, the trouble being it's not sarcasm, it's reality. Look up "Bowman vs Monsanto", a Supreme Court case where a farmer replanted seeds created by his crop, except be bought the original seeds from Monsanto. Now Bowman is a criminal because Monsanto didn't get paid again for the patented seed variety.

We are slaves to a great many cartels which control our access to food, health, energy, money and safety.

@M A @Frank Buldarky

you it seems are the one who is an idiot, unable to recognize his sarcasm and cynicism nor the clear nuggets and truth and fact that lies within every sentence.

We need to look no further than the economic policies of international organizations like the IMF and the World Bank which decimate local agriculture (in favor of initially cheap then rapidly overpriced agricultural imports) to agricultural aid to Africa, supported by PATENTED, ONE TIME USE ONLY seed stock!

YOU are the one with no clue.

:(

@M A @Frank Buldarky  Frank Buldarky is speaking the truth in a way that sounds absurd. The really absurd part is we (as humans and citizens) have allowed this reality to develop. The question is, what are we going to do about it?

@M A@Frank BuldarkyYou don't know if he's serious yet you are calling him stupid....
Let me spell it out for you since you didn't understand Frank's "stupid" comment.
Frank is being sarcastic and he did such a good job at it that some that aren't used to thinking critically about something they read were fooled by it. (So we are clear; I am talking about you. TO make it even clearer; I basically called you simple minded)
