Photo: London's Oldest "Boardwalk" Found?



A worker excavates ancient timbers from layers of peat in a suburb of East London near the River Thames.

The prehistoric wood structure, the oldest yet found in London, was most likely set down to keep people's feet dry as they ventured across soggy marshland in search of food, archaeologists said in August 2009.
