Photo: 6.8 Quake Rattles New Zealand



New Zealand officials said the strong quake on December 20, 2007 had a magnitude of 6.8, while the U.S. Geological Survey measured 6.6. This map locates the quake's epicenter and cites an earlier magnitude estimate of 6.4.

The southern hemisphere island nation is no stranger to quakes. This time around, no casualties were reported.
