On March 22, 2006, ex-Muslim Abdul Rahman holds a Bible in a Kabul, Afghanistan, court. Rahman faced the death penalty for converting to Christianity.

He was freed Monday, March 27, after being declared mentally unfit for trial, though he still faced danger from an angry Afghan public. On Wednesday, March 29, he escaped to Italy.
