Photo: Chimps Are Not People, Austrian Court Rules, Group Says



Austria's Supreme Court says this chimp is not a person, activists announced this week.

A Vienna-based animal-rights group had sought to have the chimp—named Matthew Hiasl Pan and pictured in this May 2007 photo—declared a person, with the hope of gaining legal guardianship of the animal after its shelter declared bankruptcy.
