Photo: Hurricanes Blow Away Bats, Spread Genes to New Islands



Hurricanes may blow common fruit bats in the Caribbean (above, a colony roosting in a cave in Panama) from one island to another, eventually reconnecting geographically isolated species and boosting genetic diversity, according to new research released in November 2008.
