Photo: Violence Sparked by Archaeological Projects in Jerusalem

With Islam's Dome of the Rock seen behind the Western Wall, Judaism's holiest site, an Orthodox Jew photographs a bulldozer helping to excavate the site of a planned new walkway to the Temple Mount, or Noble Sanctuary, on February 7, 2007.

Across the Middle East the project has spawned protests by Muslims who fear that the Israeli project may harm sacred sites. A 3,000-person demonstration Friday on the mount ended with Israeli police firing stun grenades and rubber bullets.
