Photo: Puppies Implanted With Heroin by Smugglers, U.S. Says

Now safe and healthy, these four puppies—one rottweiler (second from right) and three Labrador retrievers—were implanted with packets of liquid heroin by Colombian drug smugglers, U.S. officials announced this week.

U.S. Drug Enforcement Agency operatives seized the dogs in a raid in 2005. Agency officials believe the dogs would have been sliced open on arrival in the U.S. and left to die.
