Photo: Cool Waters, Strong Winds Keep Hurricanes From Hawaii

The center of Hurricane Flossie passed just south of Hawaii's Big Island yesterday, the closest to approach the islands in 15 years.

Flossie, now a tropical storm, rolled northeast and is expected to curve away from the islands, as seen in this NOAA image released at midnight local time on August 15.
