Photo: Poison-Arrow Killings Surge in Africa Elephant Poaching



Five elephants, including this one, have been found killed for their ivory in Kenya's Tsavo National Park region in early 2009—some by poison and some by bullets.

Elephant poachers are increasingly using poison arrows and spears in southern Kenya, a February 2009 report says. The methods are harder to trace and draw less immediate attention than gunshots.
