Australia's new Prime Minister Kevin Rudd fulfilled a campaign promise Monday when he signed the Kyoto Protocol.

News of the commitment drew applause at a climate conference in Bali, Indonesia, where officials are already beginning to discuss the climate pact that will follow Kyoto, which expires in 2012.

The United States is now the only industrialized country that hasn't agreed to the Kyoto framework.
