Photo: "Chemical Equator" Divides Earth's Hemispheres



The "chemical equator" (depicted above north of Australia), acts as a barrier between the Northern Hemisphere's heavy pollution and the Southern Hemisphere's cleaner air. The boundary is 31 miles (50 kilometers) wide and spans the globe.
