Photo: Space Shuttle "Atlantis" Blasts Off

The space shuttle Atlantis sits on the launch platform before its 2:45 p.m. ET lift-off on February 7, 2008.

After two months of delays, the shuttle successfully began its voyage to the International Space Station carrying the European two-billion-U.S.-dollar science lab Columbus.
