Photo: Plants Exhale Methane, Add to Greenhouse Effect, Study Says



A map of global atmospheric methane published in the May 13, 2005, issue of Science shows satellite data that includes unexplained concentrations of the gas over rain forests.

Now a team of European researchers has identified a large range of plants that release methane under normal growing conditions, suggesting that the greenery could be responsible for the methane plumes.
