Photo: Freed by Sudan, "Geographic" Reporter Arrives Home in U.S.

Pulitzer Prize-winning reporter Paul Salopek (center) is welcomed home by National Geographic magazine editor Don Belt at Albuquerque, New Mexico's international airport on September 10, 2006.

On leave from the Chicago Tribune, Salopek had been on a freelance assignment for National Geographic when he was arrested in Sudan. He was later charged with spying, but New Mexico Governor Bill Richardson helped secure his release on September 9, 2006.
