The far-flung recent protests against Japanese whaling included this demonstration in front of the Japanese embassy in Santiago, Chile, on Thursday, November 29, 2007.

Japan said its decision today to halt its hunt for threatened humpback whales was a nod to the United States' request, although international pressure was stepped up this week, led by an Australian plan to monitor the Japanese whaling fleet's activities.
