Photo: Giant Gas Loops Found in Center of Milky Way, Scientists Say

Two giant loops that extend above the rotating disk of interstellar gas at the heart of the Milky Way have been observed by Japanese researchers.

The top two panels represent each individual loop, while the bottom panel shows where the loops occur in relation to each other and the galactic plane.
