Photo: Dams May Damage Mekong River, Groups Say

Two Thai fishermen show a 646-pound (293-kilogram) giant catfish—an endangered species—fresh from the Mekong River in northern Thailand's Chiang Rai province in mid-May, 2005.

Six proposed dams on the Mekong River could displace up to 75,000 villagers and harm hundreds of species like the giant catfish, conservationists warned Tuesday.
