On July 18, 2008, a veterinarian at the Niteroi Zoo in Rio de Janeiro, Brazil, treats a Megallanic penguin rescued from a local beach.

As of August 2008 hundreds of dead and dying penguins have been found along Brazil's beaches, including some as far north as Bahia state, wildlife officials report.
