Photo: Plastic-Bag Bans Gaining Momentum Around the World



Plastic bags and other debris litter a Beijing market in January 2008. On the eve of the Olympics, China has jumped on the bandwagon of banning free plastic shopping bags over aesthetic and environmental concerns.

Plastic bag bans or taxes are growing increasingly common. Many places in the U.S., Europe, and Asia already implement such measures, while proposals are outstanding in other locales.
