A farm worker in Woodsboro, Maryland, adds to a steaming pile of cow manure that will be transported to another farm for use as crop fertilizer in March 2005.

Manure piles, air conditioners, and gas-packed Arctic soils are among the sources of greenhouse gases that, like the oft-cited carbon dioxide, are contributing to human-caused global warming, experts said in September 2009.
