Photo: Biggest Atom Smasher to Fire Up Wednesday

Two magnets of the Large Hadron Collider are seen before they are connected together in an undated photo.

The long-awaited start-up of the world's biggest science experiment will begin Wednesday, September 10, when researchers guide the first beam of protons around the collider.
