Photo: Weird "Spider," Volcanism Discovered on Mercury



A unique geologic formation called the Spider sits at the center of the Caloris Basin on Mercury, new images from the MESSENGER spacecraft reveal.

The feature was among several preliminary findings unveiled by NASA during a January 30, 2008, press briefing.
