Photo: Mysterious Jellyfish Swarms Seen in Europe, U.S.



Reports from the U.S. and Europe of dramatic increases in jellyfish, like those seen above in the Mediterranean Sea, highlight a lack of knowledge about the stinging creatures, scientists said in August 2008.

Surges in jellyfish populations can wreak havoc on ecosystems, but experts agree there is not enough data to say if the recently reported swarms are part of a long-term trend.
