Photo: Eyeglass-Free 3-D Movies on the Horizon



These views of an automobile (top) and of a human brain are seen on the first rewritable 3-D display surface, which is described in a new study.

On this special surface, a hologram image replaces another within a few minutes—though the ultimate goal is mere seconds.

The technology may someday allow cinema-goers to watch movies in 3-D, without the need for eyeglasses.
