Photo: Sex Now the Main Cause of HIV in China

Students dressed in giant condoms hand out prophylactics to passers by on World Aids Day last year—December 1, 2006—in a Hong Kong district frequented by prostitutes.

This year Chinese and international officials announced that sex has overtaken drug use as the chief means of contracting HIV in China.

They estimate that some 60 percent of prostitutes do not use condoms regularly.
