Photo: Whalers Detain Activists in Antarctica

Crew members of the Japanese whaling vessel Yushin Maru No. 2, spray water at activists from the environmental group Sea Shepherd on January 15, 2008, in Antarctic waters.

The Japanese whaling ship detained two of the group's activists, who they say illegally boarded the vessel. An organizer of the whale-hunt accused the detainees of "piracy."

The founder of the Sea Shepherd group described the detained activists as "hostages."
