Photo: Mars Close-Up Casts Doubts on Signs of Recent Water



Martian gullies—like those seen above in these high-resolution images from the Mars Reconnaissance Orbiter—show the same channels, terraces, and other features seen in water-carved regions on Earth.

Analysis of new images from the orbiter are casting doubt on previous geologic signs that liquid water may flow near the planet's surface.
