Photo: Sabertooth Cousin Found in Venezuela Tar Pit -- A First

The remains of six scimitar cats—including this skull, photographed on August 12, 2008—were found in an ancient tar pit in eastern Venezuela, experts announced recently.

The site may also reveal a migration of North South American plants and animals two to three million years ago when the two continents unified, scientists say.
