Photo: Lightning Warns of Hurricanes' Most Intense Moments?



Lightning (above, bolts fill the sky over Nebraska) may help improve hurricane forecasts by signaling when the storms are about to reach peak intensity, according to an April 2009 study. The authors suggest the find could be especially useful in regions that lack hurricane-tracking technologies.
