Photo: Deadly Bat Disease Linked to Cold-Loving Fungus



Scientists have linked a fungus associated with the Arctic to an unidentified disease that has been killing large numbers of bats in the northeastern United States.

The fungus infects hibernating bats, like the little brown bat with fungus on its muzzle seen above, though no one knows whether it causes their deaths, according to an October 2008 study.
