Photo: Space Shuttle "Endeavour" Blasts Off

March 11, 2008—NASA's first nighttime shuttle launch since 2006 sent Endeavour toward the International Space Station from Cape Canaveral, Florida.

The mission, including the assembly of a Canadian robot and the installation of a Japanese "float in" closet, was scheduled to last 16 days, making it the longest shuttle mission to the space station yet.

Five space walks were scheduled—the most ever in a single mission.
