Photo: Earliest Oil Paintings Found in Famed Afghan Caves



This newly discovered mural is from one of 12 caves in Afghanistan's Bamian Valley found to contain oil- and resin-based paintings.

Scientists say the murals represent the world's earliest known use of oil-based binders in painting.
