Photo: Sahara Farming Village Struggles for Survival



The farming village of Abu Minqar brings a surprising flash of green to the dusty expanse of Egypt's remote western desert.

Many residents were lured to the hardscrabble town by government promises of cheap land and ongoing assistance. But that aid has dried up, leaving villagers to cope with outdated farming technology, crumbling infrastructure, and a lack of buyers for their wares.
