Photo: Fly Eyes Inspire Better Video Cameras, Motion Detection



New software that replicates the way flies see could provide the basis for better cameras and motion-detection systems.

Flies excel at picking out details obscured by movement or washed out because of variations in light levels. For example, the new fly-based software can better resolve a man obscured behind a plant (top). By focusing on areas of movement (middle), the man pops out in stark definition (bottom).
