Photo: Laser Triggers Lightning "Precursors" in Clouds



Lightning strikes at the Texas-Mexico border in an undated photo. Though lasers cannot yet trigger full-size bolts like these, a new apparatus described in an April 2008 study has allowed scientists to cause early stages of lightning in clouds.
