Photo: HIV, Malaria Fuel Each Other's Spread, Study Says



A deadly synergy exists between malaria, a disease carried by mosquitoes, and HIV, which is often transmitted through sexual contact, a new study says. So-called dual infection by both diseases has caused an estimated 8,500 new HIV cases and nearly a million malaria episodes in Africa since 1980, the researchers say.
