Photo: Rare "Barking" Bird Spurs Conservation Effort in Ecuador

The cloud forests of Central and South America are home to several species of rare and threatened birds, such as the Jocotoco antpitta of Ecuador. Thanks to the efforts of a private foundation, more than 5,500 acres (about 2,200 hectares) of cloud forest have been set aside to protect nearly the entire known range of this ground-dwelling antbird.
