Photo: River Runs Red With Pollution in China, Report Says

A worker walks by a creek with water that has been tinted reddish brown by pollution from a nearby chemical factory.

This picture was taken on July 4, 2007, in Xiangfan in China's Hubei province.

Farther north, Futuo River in China's Hebei province also was running red from pollution that had caused chronic illness in villagers, according to a recent report in the state-run media.
