Photo: Ancient Mummy Warehouse Found Deep Beneath Egypt

In a 2,600-year-old "mummy storehouse" at the bottom of a 36-foot-deep (11-meter-deep) shaft, Zahi Hawass, secretary-general of Egypt's Supreme Council of Antiquities, inspects a stone coffin, or sarcophagus.

Archaeologists announced February 9, 2009, that they had found 30 mummies in the storehouse, located at Saqqara, an ancient royal necropolis.
