Photo: Japan May Be Ready to Deal on Whaling, Insider Hints



Japanese researchers examine in November 2007 one of 50 minke whales caught that year for scientific research. Many critics accuse Japan of using a research exemption to bypass a moratorium on whale hunting imposed by the International Whaling Commission in 1986.

Now, after a special IWC meeting in March 2008, member countries might be working to find an acceptable compromise that would allow Japan to take up to 400 minke whales from its own waters, an insider suggests.
